Frameworks (2005-2006)
FrameWorks encompasses twenty unique works in which objects billow and spill over the ornate silver and gold frames in which they are set. The inspiration came from a visit to the Fogg Museum at Harvard in which the artist was enamored by the great works of modern art and the frames in which they were set in. Using objects and frames acquired and collected at swap meets, flea markets, thrift stores and yard sales, Hinger creates colorfully altered compositions to present controversial current events and icons.
FrameWorks mocks the manner in which the media takes an issue and exaggerates it; presenting it as a scandalous story that keeps you captivated and locked on the channel. Included in the series are topics such as same sex marriage, reality T.V., paparazzi and politics. In the likeness of the popular Daily Show and The Colbert Report, Hinger satirically comments on issues sensationalized by the media.
Keeping to a smaller scale than his earlier works with this series, Hinger continues to create in a whimsical, reflective style. His Work challenges us to reconsider our values as part of the Western culture built on consumerism media hype.
